I got the news. I didn't like what I heard. For decades I held on to hope that what Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin captured on film that October day back in 1967 was the real thing. I scruitinized it and analyzed the gait, the apparent size based on information provided by the witnesses, and couldn't see how a man could walk that effortlessly in a big fur suit.
When I showed my wife the clip she said, "that's a guy." I couldn't believe how she could dismiss it out of hand like that, without a thought. Was I wrong all these years to think this was a real, flesh and blood Sasquatch caught on film? I'm a hobby photographer, have used film cameras when I was younger, was a graphic artist for years in the print and online retail industries. I've analyzed a picture or two, seen my share of films.
Sure, I admit it could be a very clever hoax, but something tells the logical side of my brain that a guy just can't stroll along like that in a "gorilla suit" like he's sauntering through the park. If you actually attempt to walk like the being does in the film it is very difficult. Examine how it walks, then get up and try to replicate that walk. It's not easy.
We're talking about a man having to wear a suit easily would have weighed 20 to 30 lbs., and walking across a dried riverbed with debris and rocks while wearing fake feet. Sure, they would make sure to clear the path, and give him a few trial runs, that would be expected. But I still just don't know...
I don't see it. But, I could be wrong. Although I hope not! That's why we'll be diving in to the Patterso-Gilmin Bigfoot footage on an upcoming episode of Apokryphunk.
We will recount the original story as told by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin, analyze the original film, the exposure, colors, movements, etc. And we'll talk about the new documentary that claims it was all a big hoax.
This will take some time, so stay tuned, and follow Apokryphunk wherever you get your podcasts to find out when it is available.
